June Pet Holidays

National Adopt a Cat Month

National Adopt a Cat Month is celebrated every June to encourage prospective pet owners to adopt felines from local shelters during the peak of “kitten season,” when shelters see an influx of newborn litters.

National Pet Preparedness Month

Pet Preparedness Month is observed annually in June to remind pet owners to include their furry friends in emergency and disaster plans. Because emergencies like wildfires, floods, and earthquakes strike quickly, preparing a dedicated “Go-Kit,” ensuring proper identification, and mapping out a plan ahead of time keeps your entire family safe.

National Microchipping Month

National Microchipping Month is widely recognized in June by major animal welfare groups, through organizations like AKC Reunite observe it in May as “National Chip Your Pet Month”. The primary goal of this campaign is to raise awareness about the critical importance of implanting permanent identification in pets and ensuring their registry information is kept current.

National Foster A Pet Month

National Foster a Pet Month is observed every June to raise awareness about temporarily housing shelter animals to prepare them for adoption. It’s a vital way to free up shelter space, reduce animal stress, and provide special care for vulnerable pets like newborn kittens, seniors, and those recovering from surgery.

Celebrate Your Pet this Month

June 4 - Hug Your Cat Day

Hug Your Cat Day is celebrated annually on June 4. It is a fun, unofficial holiday designed to encourage cat owners to shower their feline companions with extra love, attention, and cuddles. While it’s the perfect excuse for some quality bonding, be mindful that many cats prefer gentle scratches behind the ears over tight hugs to avoid stressing them out. If your cat prefers a more hands-off approach, you can still celebrate by offering treats, playing with their favorite wand toy, or simply letting them nap in your general vicinity.

June 4 - International Corgi Day

International Corgi Day is celebrated globally every year on June 4.  Established in 2011 by the Omaha Corgi Crew, this paw-ty holiday honors both the Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgi breeds (and mixes) while raising vital funds and awareness for corgi rescues worldwide.
