How can you tell if your pet has allergies?

Pets can suffer from seasonal allergies. There are several common triggers from the environment, like pollen, mold, and grass. The symptoms can be excessive itching, red or irritated skin, ear infections, watery eyes, and/or sneezing. Some signs to notice from your pet include paw licking, skin redness, hair loss, and ear odor or discharge.

Signs of Seasonal Allergies
Itching – Excessive scratching, biting, or licking, especially of the paws, armpits, and groin
Skin Issues – Redness, rashes, hair loss, dandruff, or dry skin
Ear Problems – Red, inflamed, or smelly ears, or head shaking
Eye & Respiratory Issues – Watery, red eyes, sneezing, or runny nose
Skin Infections – can develop as a secondary issue from chronic itching and can cause unusual odors and discharge
How to Help Your Pet

Medications: Antistamines, steroids, or other drugs to reduce inflammation and itching
Skin Care: Medicated baths or wipes to soothe the skin.
Dietary Changes: Hypoallergenic diets may be recommended to manage food sensitivities that can worsen allergy symptoms
Environmental Control: Keeping windows closed during high pollen counts and using air purifiers can help reduce exposure.
